Such bright colours on these freshly painted boats. Took my breath away when I saw them moored in Whitby harbour.

I admit to a bit of artistic license over the colour of the water though!

An atmospheric late sun brightening the red roofs and shadowing the cliffs and sea walls surrounding Robin Hood’s Bay.

Parked up in Whitby, in the Church Street car park. An afternoon sun lights up the buildings across the water. The massive length of the Chieftain in her usual mooring, and above the harbour wall the holiday-makers stroll along New Quay Road.

Stand on The Dock, just outside The Bay Hotel, with your back to the sea. You'll see this view of boats, old fisherman's cottages, shops and bars.

Halfway down the 199 Steps, the red roofs of Henrietta Street below. Across the harbour there are boats moored by the old Fish Market. And the East and West Piers are reaching out to the horizon.

Another memory of Cornwall. A low tide at Mevagissey, boats at rest in the harbour, and a crazy jumble of boxes, buoys, masts and rigging.

Traveling from Castleton to Hutton-le-Hole we stopped on the tops and looked across Danby Dale, enjoying the sweep of the hill and the tiny farm buildings clustered in the valley.

Halfway up the 199 Steps and taking a breather. Time to enjoy that view of the harbour and the red and blue roofs of the West Side crowding down to the waterside.

Park the bike, find a seat on a bench or an empty trailer, or wander down to the Bay Hotel with the dog. However you do it - enjoy!

We moved to Penzance so I could start painting. This was the view from a back window in the house where we lived. Across the bay to St Michael’s Mount. Remembered with great affection.

A walk with friends on a sunny day in Darley. They took us to their favourite view - looking across a field full of buttercups to the hills and farms of Nidderdale.

Meandering through Swaledale we found Thwaite - a peaceful place to stop and enjoy coffee and cake under the umbrellas of the hotel cafe.

A sunny day in Robin Hood’s Bay. And where else but The Bay Hotel to enjoy the sea, the sun - and a quiet drink.

The familiar winding road out of Sandsend, the cluster of houses, the beach and sea. And a rare sight - someone fishing close to the water’s edge, with the tractor waiting on the beach to haul the boat to shore.

Meandering down the back lanes of Staithes, the sun catching the houses on Cowbar, and highlighting the flags, floats and crab pots in the lane.

Looking for inspiration, and found this in my old photos. Loved the light on the red and gold, the sprinkling of snow and the threatening sky - looks like ‘more snow on the way’.

Coffee and cake at the Marigold, hire a boat and row out under the viaduct, or just enjoy a stroll along Waterside.

Summer skies reflected in The Nidd, the tumble of houses down to the river, the arches of the viaduct dwarfing the tiny rowing boats with their happy cargoes.

I’m always fascinated by the way landscape changes through the seasons. And I really like the way snow simplifies the roll of the fields and shows up the patterns of the walls and trees.
